Good news! Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree has been announced and the DLC will take gamers 20 to 30 hours to beat. Elden Ring is already a fantastic open-world game with mythical bosses, war-hardened maidens, and many other eldritch horrors to behold. Like a new toy, the little boy inside us is drawn to the upcoming DLC. Player.com will unravel its inner workings and changes made to the gameplay. To that end, below are the six new weapons teased in the trailer.

6 New Weapons in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
Players have discovered more than 300 unique weapons in Elden Ring and its DLC will introduce several new ones. Already, there’s news that there will be at least eight new weapons to try out in the new DLC. However, FromSoftware is a dedicated studio, so there might be more. Please note that none of the weapons on this list is an Elden Ring axe or hatchet.
#1: The Huge Fire Pot
Pots are one of the most iconic beings and weapons in Elden Ring. There’s Iron Fist Alexander whom you can talk to when you find him on the west side of Mt. Gelmir. It would benefit you to help Iron Fist Alexander so that you can summon him in the Starscourge Radahn fight. On the flip side, Pots are also devastating weapons used by both the players and Giants.
Giants are huge creatures who can wield large blades and other powerful weapons, such as huge Pots. There’s one near Seila Town, who throws powerful purple Pots. To date, the Pot is one of the best throwable weapons in Elden Ring because of its many variations. For one, there are regular pots such as:
- Roped Magic Pot.
- Lightning Pot.
- Holy Water Pot.
- Roped Volcano Pot.
- Magic Pot.
- Swarm Pot.
- Roped Fire Pot.
However, players can’t throw a Huge Pot, which is a fact that may change in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. We see a player character throwing a Huge Fire Pot in the trailer, so it may be one of the latest weapons added to the game.
#2: Dual-Edged Blade
You can as well call it a spear because of its length. A dual-edged blade was teased in the trailer for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. This new weapon is bigger than usual, so it might even be a shield that also functions as a weapon. There are lots of guesses circulating Elden Ring forums, but nobody knows what this behemoth of a weapon is; Except for the fact that it will introduce a new combat style. Maybe it will help you perfectly parry blows or it may cause haemorrhaging, we can’t wait to find out.
#3: Purple Lance
We also saw a Purple Lance in the trailer that emits purple lightning, so you can shock enemies to death. If you’ve always thought that there aren’t enough Great Spears in Elden Ring, this is one more. Lances are great weapons for players who struggle in close-range combat due to their long range. In other words, you can reach multiple enemies simultaneously, while having enough space to dodge their attacks.
Lances usually scale with Strength and Dexterity, so there’s a high chance that the Purple Lance will also reward players who have dumped many points in Strength and Dexterity. Lances are also perfect for enemies who use Light Armor, or Medium Armor or are covered in scales. So, bosses like Flying Dragon Agheel are easier to beat with them.
#4: Messmer’s Spear
Messmer’s Spear is another weapon that will be effective against enemies in Light and Medium Armor. Dragons will fall before you, especially if it’s an ice-based Dragon because Messmer’s Spear is covered in hot flames. It emits bright red sparks, so its Ash of War may be a brilliant, fiery explosion that will help control crowds in Elden Ring.
Still, you must beat Messmer the Impaler before you’re worthy enough to wield his Spear. He uses fire-based attacks, which is how we know his Spear will also vomit flames if given the chance. Usually, Messmer the Impaler also has a snake pet and we can expect his health bar to be chunky. Yes, Messmer, the Impaler seems to be another Demigod in Elden Ring.
#5: Butterfly Spell
The Butterfly Spell may supposedly be the Hoarfrost Stomp of our dreams since it’s another spell with a huge AoE. You essentially cover the area you’re facing with destructive butterflies that will suck the life out of the enemy. We’re not vampires, but the idea of decimating enemies without swinging our swords is too good to ignore.
Yes, this spell will most likely scale with Intelligence, like many other spells in Elden Ring. We doubt the duration of the spell will increase with higher intelligence, but the higher your Intelligence, the harder your spells will hit. You’ll also need a large FP reserve to be able to spam Butterfly Spell and even then, it might be nerfed in a future update.
#6: Fire Crossbow
Fire Crossbow is the only proper long-ranged Elden Ring weapon on the list because Pots and most spells have limited range. However, the Fire Crossbow will make many encounters fun since you can keep your distance. Not only will players save up on their health, but mages will also shine because they may run out of magic.
That said, Crossbows don’t scale with any attribute in Elden Ring; That honour is solely reserved for Bows. Additionally, Crossbows can’t be upgraded, which means that the Fire Crossbow will be overpowered. Hopefully, the developers will add a new Bow that’s upgradeable. However, Crossbows are perfect for people who don’t want to specialise too much.
#7: Gyakute Ken
Gyakute Ken are dual-curved swords that look like Scimitars, so they’re perfect for slashing enemies and inflicting the Haemorrhage effect. They will introduce a new combat style to the battlefield that involves a lot of twirls with the twin blades. The move set is almost like a dance, with the way the character can seamlessly dodge attacks and then execute quick counters.
Since you’re practising a dual-sword combat style, Gyakute Ken is perfect for Dexterity and Strength builds. If the swords are powered by magic instead, then an Intelligence build will be better. So, we’re looking forward to the Gyakute Ken and its scaling attributes.
Our Final Say: Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree’s Weapons Will Impress
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is an upcoming RPG with beautiful visuals and a tight storyline. Judging by the success of the first game, the DLC is bound to sell like crazy. Nevertheless, we can’t help but wish for more weapons than FromSoftware teased in its trailer. Elden Ring itself is around 60 hours long, so a 20-hour-long campaign should give us around 100 new weapons.
