Top 6 Weapons in Contra Operation Galuga
Contra Operation Galuga is a campaign against the Red Falcon, a terrorist organisation that just took over the Galuga Islands near New Zealand. Your job as an elite Commando is to run and gun down all enemies in a war that determines the fate of humanity.
The game boasts eight levels, where Spread Shot, lasers, and homing missiles attempt to halt your advance. Of course, you’ve got your big guns, and below, we’ve ranked the six weapons in Contra Operation Galuga.
#1: The Laser Gun
The Laser Gun sits atop our list because of its high damage and continuous attack speed. Just know that any protagonist who wields one is OP, so it’s a welcome addition to Contra Operation Galuga. It’s like wielding the Sacred Relic blade from Elden Ring. Besides the impressive damage that it deals with, the Laser Beam also boasts a wide range, so it’s capable of eliminating multiple enemies at once.
It’s particularly effective against enemies with thick shields, and in this Contra game, it can pierce enemies. Likewise, an upgraded version of the Laser Gun is capable of ricocheting to nearby enemies for brilliant gunplay. Yes, the Laser Gun exhibits some homing properties once it’s upgraded to Level 2.
#2: The Flame Thrower
The Flame Thrower is also known as the Fire Gun because it either shoots fireballs or releases a constant stream of flames to burn enemies. It deals more damage than the Machine Gun and yet, doesn’t have any aim problems. After all, you’re dealing with fire here. In this Contra title, the Flame Thrower ejects a continuous stream of fire with incredible reach.
Players that upgrade it to Level 2 can expect the range of the Flame Thrower to improve by 50%. Its Overload feature is also a Shield that surrounds players with a stationary flaming shield. Any enemy that comes too close will combust, though the Shield can only take eight attacks before it shatters. The flames from this weapon remind us of Rykard’s hellish flames in Elden Ring that will pierce your enemies.
#3: The Crush Gun
The Crush Gun is a weapon that explodes on impact or after travelling a short distance. It truly shines during crowd control because of its short range of attack. Still, the explosions from the Crush Gun are enough to decimate any enemy. It works better against stationary enemies than those that are constantly on the move.
In Contra Operation Galuga, it’s called a Crush Bomb, with violet projectiles. When upgraded to Level 2, the Crush Bomb acts like a gravity well, which means it implodes enemies. Also, its Overload is fantastic, allowing it to shoot 10 rockets with homing properties at enemies. It’s called Barrage, and its visual effects are striking, which isn’t surprising for a 15GB game.

#4: The Spread Shot
The Spread Shot is one of the most popular guns in Contra history due to its wide AoE. It fires several bullets that spread the further they get from the gun, perfect for crowd control. For example, when you’re surrounded, pull out the Spread Shot and watch your enemies drop like flies. Usually, the Spread Shot only shoots bullets in five different directions.
Additionally, the rounds can travel through walls and other objects in their way. That said, the gun truly shines in close encounters with mini-bosses and main bosses. Getting up close and personal lets your bullets sink right into their targets. So, it’s almost as effective as using the Laser Gun.
In Contra Operation Galuga, you can upgrade the weapon to shoot five bullets per round. Its Overload is called the Salvo, and it fires 18 bullets that can ricochet off walls and even your monitor to deliver killing blows to enemies. Otherwise, the bullets will bounce around for seven seconds before dissipating.
#5: The Homing Gun
The Homing Gun, otherwise known as Homing Missiles, also fires bullets, and yes, they’re home in on their targets. Otherwise, they fire missiles that automatically target enemies for a brilliant explosion of sulphur and the like. Also, the damage per explosion of each isn’t the best, which is an intentional move.
Overall, players shouldn’t rely on the homing feature since it might lock onto targets that aren’t posing a threat to them. So, moving around will let you target another enemy. Once upgraded to Level 2, the Homing Missile now pierces enemies like a laser beam.
Its Overload is also nifty, allowing you to call four drones that fire laser beams at enemies. The drones are usually only active for six seconds before they fly away.

#6: The Machine Gun
The Machine Gun is the default weapon of every protagonist in the Contra games, and Contra Operation Galuga is no different. It boasts a better range than a Pistol, but you’re still limited to a slow fire rate. So, the Machine Gun’s saving grace is its fully automatic fire rate, so you never have to let go of the shoot button.
On the bright side, it can be upgraded to Level 2 in Contra Operation Galuga to dramatically improve its fire rate. Also, its Overload is an ability called Barrier, which surrounds the player with a red shield for six seconds. The shield obviously repels enemy projectiles and contact.

With everything mentioned above, the variety of weapons adds strategic depth and variety to the fast-paced, side-scrolling gameplay and mastering each will help you better battle hordes of enemies, dodge bullets, and overcome formidable bosses.
