Continuing its success with its first Alan Wake 2 DLC, Night Springs, Remedy Entertainment has announced that its second DLC, The Lake House, will be coming this October with no release date announced yet.
Besides announcing the second Alan Wake 2 DLC, Alan Wake 2’s director, Sam Lake, appeared at the Summer Game Fest held last month to announce a physical and collector’s edition of the smash-hit horror sequel coming October 22nd via Limited Run Games.
Brief Details About The Lake House DLC
While there was no official release date announced for the second Alan Wake 2 DLC, the FAQ did provide fans with a description of the expansion as it explains the Lake House as a “mysterious facility situated on the shores of Cauldron Lake set up by an independent government organisation to conduct secret research… until something goes wrong”.

While it is only speculation, the Lake House DLC seems to relate to either the small Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) hut or the Witchfinder’s Station in Alan Wake 2’s Cauldron Lake area. As for where and what the Lake House is, we speculate it is the Bird Leg Cabin, which was a massive location for the writer and his wife as it was where the villainous Barbara Jagger kidnapped Alice after luring Alan Wake to Diver’s Isle with the intent of using him to rewrite reality.
Furthermore, following hints by Remedy, the Lake House expansion might very well crossover with Control as this game took place in the “Oldest House”, making the description “Explore the Lake House and embark on an adventure as the realities of the Pacific Northwest and the Dark Place collide again” even more intriguing. As for whether the Lake House DLC will feature three chapters like its predecessor, we presume not, as Night Springs’ has its status as a TV show, which justifies its episodic structure.

The Success of the First Alan Wake 2 DLC: Night Springs
Although the title of best DLC this year will undoubtedly belong to Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree, the first Alan Wake 2 DLC, Night Springs, was an enjoyable present-day experience. For starters, Night Springs featured three playable episodes titled: “Number One Fan,” “North Star,” and “Time Breaker,” each expanding upon unique elements that made the base game enjoyable.
For example, the Number One Fan allowed us to control The Waitress, which many may recognise as Rose Marigold, the obsessive fan who runs the Oh Deer Diner in Bright Falls. It completely replaced the survival component of the base game by strapping a fully automatic shotgun to Rose’s shoulder and lining the pockets of her apron with an almost limitless supply of shells to blast through enemies to save her beloved from “Haters”.
The second episode, North Star, felt a bit slower pace and an interlude between the first and last as you control The Sibling and immerse deeply into the roots of Control, making notes of government agencies and secret plots, as the tone shifts back into its more familiar survival horror footing. It was a puzzle-filled chapter and the least jaw-dropping of the three.
Lastly, Time Breaker brought the first Alan Wake 2 DLC to a fitting end as we assume the role of the actor, Shawn Ashmore, and delve into the more surreal, metafiction parts of the base game. True to the series’ roots, the third chapter features atmospheric and haunting environments as we traverse through ominous forest paths and disorientating hotel corridor loops, psychedelically shifting from the monochrome presentation of early television to the vivid colours of comic book panelling that seem to specific present Remedy’s homage to Max Payne.
Parting Thoughts
When the names of the two Alan Wake 2 DLCs released, the titled: The Lake House sounds a more thrilling name than Night Springs. While the first DLC lived up to expectations, we cannot wait for the second to offer us an even more captivating journey into the unknown, filled with psychological horror and compelling storytelling.
