Nintendo Direct 2024 is now a done deal, and while the livestream was short, Nintendo did squeeze in their time efficiently to provide updates and reveal much news coming to the Switch console this year and 2025.
For example, Nintendo Direct 2024 unveiled a new Legend of Zelda adventure game where you play as the iconic princess for a change, our first teaser at Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Dragon Quest games HD-2D remakes and many more.
As for some eagerly-awaited updates, such as Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Nintendo Switch 2, we, unfortunately, did not receive any, but it does not take away the stacked lineup we saw in the Nintendo Direct 2024 livestream, as shown with our roundup below.
Everything Announced at Nintendo Direct 2024
1) Mario & Luigi: Brothership (November 7, 2024)
Mario & Luigi: Brothership started the show at Nintendo Direct 2024, as the iconic brothers set off on another adventure together at Shipshape Island.
In their island-hopping adventure, they will journey through the vast world of Concordia, meet new friends like Connie and Snoutlet and encounter familiar faces from the Mushroom Kingdom like Peach and Bowser.

2) Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition (July 18, 2024)

If you are a speedrunning or fast-paced reflex games fan, the Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition is perfect for you as the game features over 150 speedrunning challenges from 13 NES games.
The game will also include three modes, which are Speedrun Mode (Players must speedrun through challenges), World Championship (Players speedrun through five different challenges consecutively) and Party Mode (Players can join up to a party of 8 and enjoy a competitive speedrun challenge).
3) Fairy Tail 2 (Winter 2024)
One of the iconic animes is getting a justifiable climax in the gaming scene as the game will adapt the final arc (The Alvarez Empire Arc) of the long-standing series.
According to Koei Tecmo, Fairy Tail 2 will feature 3D graphics and improved gameplay with new “Character Stories” where players can discover a new and hidden side to their favourite characters.
4) FANTASIAN Neo Dimension (Winter 2024)
FANTASIAN Neo Dimension is an original RPG story by Final Fantasy creator Sakaguchi Hironobu and renowned composer Nobuo Uematsu, where we follow the journey of Leo to recover his memories while saving his world from a strange mechanical infection.
The game follows a turn-based battle system with brand-new features, including English and Japanese voiceovers and an additional difficulty option.
5) Nintendo Switch Sports (Summer Update)

Nintendo Switch Sports was one of the more hype announcements in Nintendo Direct 2024, as Basketball is finally arriving in the game as a free update.
In addition, players can participate in 2v2 local and online matches or enjoy their hand at a three-point challenge and a five-streak battle mode where the game pits four players against each other in a mini-game akin to the three-point challenge.
6) MIO: Memories in Orbit (2025)
MIO: Memories in Orbit is an upcoming Metroidvania platformer video game where players play as the android MIO to revive the forgotten ark spaceship aptly named “The Vessel” from its imminent shutdown.
7) Disney Illusion Island
The Mystery in Monoth update is arriving in the game as a free add-on, as you will be helping Mickey and the gang solve one of Detective Dash Dolphin’s mysteries. The free update is already available for players playing the game on Switch.
8) Hello Kitty Island Adventure (2025)

The cute and cosy adventure game Hello Kitty Island Adventure will be arriving on Switch, and players can enjoy a management sim-like mechanic with light exploration, platforming, and puzzle-solving Apple Arcade players have played since last year.
As for the game’s plot, players will try to restore a mysterious island while befriending Hello Kitty, Kuromi and many more.
9) Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports (Fall 2024)
Looney Tunes, one of the most memorable shows on Cartoon Network, is arriving on Switch with a sports-themed game where players can select their favourite Looney Tunes character in this local co-op game.
Up to four players can join the lobby, and players can select sports from Basketball, Soccer, Golf and Tennis and play to their character’s strengths and opponents’ weaknesses.
10) Among Us
Probably the most popular game in the covid-era, Among Us will be adding three new roles as per the game announced in Nintendo Direct 2024.
Firstly, crewmates will now have a Tracker role that can track others with a map and a Noisemaker role that alerts players when they die. As for the imposters, they will now have a Phantom role where they can turn invisible.
11) Farmagia (November 1)

Farmagia is a joint project between Fairy Tail and Edens Zero creator Hiro Mashima and Marvelous as they prepare to launch a brand-new adventure game full of frantic monster combat and rewarding farming simulation.
While the concept is not entirely different from Palworld, the game will see you command a monster army as you battle across the treacherous lands of the Underworld against Glaza and the Oración Seis.
12) Donkey Kong Country Returns HD (January 16, 2025)
The King Kong returns from its Nintendo Wii days and arrives on Switch with the complete 80 levels from the original Wii version, the additional stages from the 3DS version, and more.
The game will also feature two-player co-op across all 80 levels, as players can enjoy the smooth mechanics with friends.
13) Dragon Quest HD-2D Remakes
One of the main highlights of Nintendo Direct 2024 is the HD-2D remake of the trilogy classic Dragon Quest RPG games. According to Nintendo, Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D will be released first on November 14, 2024, while Dragon Quest 1-2 HD-2D will follow swiftly in 2025.
For newcomers, the original Dragon Quest 3 takes place before the events of the first two games in the series. Thus, chronologically, playing Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D first will prepare you for the next two games.
14) Funko Fusion (September 13, 2024)

The word Funko may be recognisable to you as it is the same word seen in Funko Pop, which is starting to take over your local shopping malls. In this instance, Funko Fusion will begin its reign on Switch as the game will bring together over 20 entertainment worlds into one for a wild action game.
In addition, you can unlock and play with over 60 characters inspired by Jurassic World, Back to the Future, JAWS, The Thing, Chucky, Invincible and many more.
15) Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD (June 27, 2024)
Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is almost upon us, and Nintendo Direct 2024 gave us our final snippets of the game with Luigi as he explores a series of mansions in Evershade Valley, capturing ghosts using a specialised vacuum cleaner and restoring peace to Evershade Valley.
To do so, players must collect the pieces of the Dark Moon by completing obstacles and puzzles and recapture the main antagonist, King Boo.
16) The New Denpa Men (July 22, 2024)
The New Denpa Men was originally a Japanese exclusive, but Nintendo decided to bring an English-timed-exclusive free version for International users in a month.
If you are a fan of Animal Crossing, this weirder variation may be up your alley. For example, players can experience turn-based RPG combat, a co-op mode and a customisation mode where you can decorate your island.
17) Metal Slug Attack Reloaded (June 19, 2024)

Metal Slug Attack Reloaded is the classic run-and-gun adventure tower defence game from the original Metal Slug Attack. It is a game which lets you build a team from hundreds of characters and fight through the story with its beginner-friendly controls and signature 2D-pixel look.
18) Darkest Dungeon II (July 15, 2024)
The roguelike role-playing video game developed and published by Red Hook Studios is finally making its way to Nintendo Switch after its full release on other platforms in May 2023.
In this game, players commandeer a stagecoach to help navigate the world to reach a mountain which contains the source of evil. It is a turn-based game, but players must manage their stress levels properly, or the characters will have a debilitating meltdown during combat, which results in a massive decrease in health and the acquisition of negative traits.
19) Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero (2025)
Made by the same creator as Disgaea, Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero is grid-less tactical turn-based where you become Marona, a “Gifted young girl with the power to speak to Phantoms” and even has a phantom companion “Ash”.
Besides having the power to speak to Phantoms, Marona can recruit Phantoms, bind them to objects, combine them with Gadgets, and even merge them with Marona herself to unleash show-stopping abilities in her journey across the ocean world of Ivoire on her quest to stop the ghost pirates.
20) Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics (Late 2024)

Arcade and Fighting fans may have a blast with this reveal in Nintendo Direct 2024 as Nintendo announce a jam-packed collection including seven timeless games in an all-in-one package.
For example, games such as X-Men Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom Clash of Super Heroes, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and The Punisher are all included in this package.
Furthermore, the games will include new features like online play with ranked, casual, and lobby matches with a global high-score leaderboard.
21) Super Mario Party Jamboree (October 17, 2024)
Mario was given a lot of love in Nintendo Direct 2024 as Nintendo announced yet another game, titled Super Mario Party Jamboree. Claimed as the biggest Mario Party game yet, the game will feature over 110 mini-games and seven boards.
Moreover, there is a series-first Koopathlon mode, a 20-player online competition to see who can rack up the highest scores in mini-games like the fast-paced Lane Change.
22) The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom (September 26, 2024)
Undoubtedly the star of Nintendo Direct 2024, the legendary franchise surprised everyone with a new game titled The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, where Princess Zelda is the main character, whereas Link and other people from Hyrule have disappeared after strange rifts have started appearing.
In Eiji Aonuma’s words, producer of the Zelda series, “This time around, Link has vanished, and it’s up to Princess Zelda to step into the protagonist’s role”.
Thus, it shall be as Zelda will have to work together with a mysterious fairy named Tri to use the “power of the Tri Rod to create echoes” (Not the ones in Wuthering Waves), an imitation of things found in the environment to navigate and fight through the world.
23) Just Dance 2025 Edition (October 2024)
As the 16th instalment in the Just Dance series, Just Dance 2025 will feature 40 new songs, including tracks from Ariana Grande, Sia, Lady Gaga and Green Day.
Furthermore, Ubisoft announced that Just Dance 2025 Edition will include any content players own from Just Dance 2023 Edition and Just Dance 2024 Edition while providing one month of free access to Just Dance+.
24) Lego Horizon Adventures (Late 2024)

Nintendo Direct 2024 also featured another trailer for Lego Horizon Adventures, which will bring players into Horizon: Zero Dawn as Aloy ventures off another journey in this cute world.
According to James Windeler, narrative director at Guerrilla, the latest Lego game is “unlike any other Lego game”. He continues: “From a visual perspective, we wanted to make a statement that we wanted to create a playable Lego movie in terms of the visual quality. But one of the things that’s really unique about it and very different from other games is that everything you see is from individual bricks. Every asset could, in theory, come from physical material, Lego pieces.”
25) Stray (Late 2024)

Cat lovers also got a share of love in Nintendo Direct 2024 as the PC, PlayStation, and Xbox-exclusive cat tale finally makes its way to Switch.
In this story, we will be playing as a little kitty separated from their colony in a big city and helping it arrive home safely while escaping the dangers of this long-forgotten city.
26) Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game (Late 2024)
If you ever wanted to live in a world made by J.R.R. Tolkien, now you can as Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game will grant us our wish of a Middle-earth Hobbit fantasy.
It is a heartwarming and cosy adventure game where you can create your own Hobbit as you set foot in Bywater, foster relationships with others and help bring the community together to achieve village status.
27) Ace Attorney Investigations Collection (September 6)
Similar to the Marvel fighting collection, the upcoming Ace Attorney Investigations Collection will feature remasters of Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth and Ace Attorney Investigations 2: Prosecutor’s Gambit, with finally an English version.
The games will also feature updated artwork for a more modern look, but if you want to relive the classic, you can swap to the original pixel art anytime.
28) The Hundred Line – Last Defense Academy (2025)
Old-time classics seemed to be the theme of Nintendo Direct 2024, and the creators of Danganronpa wanted to join in with its new creation: The Hundred Line – Last Defense Academy. In this game, players will play the role of Takumi Sumino, a student who suddenly enrolled at the Academy when an outbreak of monsters threatens his life and the lives of his fellow students.
Thus, as the protagonist, Takumi will join a part of a group of students at the school who must defend it against monsters in grid-based strategy encounters for 100 days. Lastly, staying with the theme of Danganronpa, you will gradually lose classmates in the game, which is not a shocker considering the scenes in Danganronpa.
29) Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven (October 24, 2024)

The penultimate announcement in Nintendo Direct 2024 is another beloved RPG series remake, Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven.
According to Nintendo, the fifth entry of the original 1993 RPG will be getting a complete remake with English voiceovers, original and rearranged compositions from series composer Kenji Ito, tweaks to the battle system, an updated timeline system and more.
30) Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (2025)
Saving the best till last, Nintendo Direct 2024 went out with all guns blazing with a first sneak-peak at Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, seven years after its first announcement.
The gameplay trailer showed myriad gameplay clips alongside a handful of the horrible alien beasties Samus must fight in her new adventure and an initial release date plan for 2025.
