Most AAA games are action games, which involve huge budgets and marketing. They can span different views, such as isometric, first-person, and third-person. Some popular mentions are Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, The Last of Us, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and Baldur’s Gate 3. Seeing as 2024 is just around the corner, everyone at Player.me is excited to play the new games that the new year will offer.

The Best Action Games Coming Out in 2024
Action games like Mortal Kombat 1 are reputable for their adrenaline-packed gameplay, animations, and visual effects. Imagine parachuting down from a skyscraper to hijack a plane and then suicide bombing a squad of enemy players. The levels of freedom and detail that these games offer are unprecedented, especially with the release of next-gen consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Thus, we can look forward to a golden age of gaming that begins with 2024’s most-anticipated action games.
#1: Crimson Desert | Supported Platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, and PC
Crimson Desert is a single-player action game where players battle enemies mediaeval-style. The game’s events take place in Pywel and Kliff, a mercenary, is the main character. It’s currently being developed using a proprietary game engine, BlackSpace. Kliff’s saga is written in blood as you combine magic and melee attacks to decimate enemy strongholds, bosses, and foot soldiers. It’s not all for naught, though, because the Pywel is a war-torn realm that desperately needs stability.
Your actions, as the protagonist, will shape the future of the realm.
Along the way, you’ll also encounter mythical beasts, cunning politicians, crazy leaders, and hostile mercenaries. Additionally, you can expect fast-paced combat, sleek parkour, and next-gen visuals. The game’s most recent trailer highlighted various lush landscapes with high-quality textures, shadows, and lighting. There’s no official word from the developers about the release date, but leaks and insider info suggest a 2024 launch.
#2: Star Wars Outlaws | Supported Platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, and PC
Star Wars Outlaws is an RPG title from Ubisoft that takes place in the Star Wars Universe. Its release date hasn’t been announced yet, but it promises a narrative-driven campaign that can rival Mass Effect 3’s scope. The game’s events occur between The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi and it follows Kay Vess, an outlaw. Reports and the trailer suggest that Vess will have two companions:
- A droid named ND-5.
- A creature belongs to the Merqaal species and is named Nix.
With these two in tow, Vess will explore huge biomes with lush environments, a dynamic Wanted system that’s similar to the one in Red Dead Redemption 2, and smooth land-to-space travel. We hope the loading times when transitioning from land to space will be short and seamless to further immerse gamers in the campaign. There are other stirring features of the game, such as:
- Sleek Faction Reputation System: This system shapes the world using your dialogue options and approach to combat.
- Aerial Combat Is Present: You can shoot down enemy aircraft if you’re skilled enough. Otherwise, you can just evade and flee.
#3: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl | Supported Platforms: Xbox and Windows
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl will supposedly be released in early 2024. That said, this sequel is similar to Metro Exodus because the events of both games occur in modern-day Russia. At least, after experiments, wars, and nuclear energy have ravaged the land and mutated everything from humans to animals. You’ll be given an impressive repertoire of weapons, including grenades, assault rifles, and pistols, to wage war.
Let’s remember that the original game was known for its smart AIs, survival elements, and cruel storyline. So, we expect the sequel to build on all of these features to truly rival modern horror games like Resident Evil 4. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl also introduces factions that you can ally with to fight anomalies and mutated beasts. So, your journey to find riches and answers in the Zone won’t be cut short.
The game is being developed from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5, so we can expect cutting-edge visuals. Every aspect of the graphics, including the resolution, frame rates, lighting, ambient occlusion, weather effects, and texture, is phenomenal. At least from the trailers and previews we experienced.
#4: Unicorn Overlord | Supported Platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch
Vanillaware announced Unicorn Overlord in September 2023 and it’s already being touted as game-of-the-year material. It features the studio’s hand-drawn graphics style but with a twist; Unicorn Overlord is the developer’s first real-time tactical RPG. Besides the visuals, combat is an interesting affair too. It seamlessly switches from an overhead view to a Mortal Kombat-esque perspective, depending on the on-screen events.
You’ll also control at least a unit of soldiers whenever you’re in combat. Yes, an online multiplayer mode that may be cross-platform like Red Dead Online, will be available too so you can compete against friends regardless of your location. To that end, players have the chance to recruit over 60 companions to fight alongside them. These companions can be a combination of human and mythical creatures.
Nevertheless, this is still an RPG title, so crafting is necessary for levelling up. Heck, you have to mine for resources via the mini-game to upgrade your equipment. For players who want to pre-order the game, that option isn’t available yet. However, we know the release date; Look forward to March 8, 2024, for an explosive launch from a veteran studio.
#5: Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth | Supported Platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, and PC
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is being released on January 26, 2024. You can unlock its demos after beating Like a Dragon Gaiden. In this upcoming title, you control Kasuga again, a capable fighter with many tricks up his sleeve. Also, turn-based combat is making a comeback too. From the Story and Adventure demos, it’s sleek, fast, and fun. It switches from a turn-based system to a real-time fight if you’re using Kiryu. The turn-based system is slightly flexible too, allowing Kasuga to reposition himself for more potent attacks and combos with his allies.
There are also better substories that lead Kasuga and, in turn, players to merry fun around the block. This includes karaoke at the bar, where you can sing to your heart’s content. Also, you’ll be able to wave at people to kickstart a bond with them.
Sometimes, you’ll encourage high school students to follow their hearts, and other times, you’re a waiter or delivery guy. Funnily enough, we love the Sicko Snap mini-games the most because you’ll be taking pictures of muscle-bound creeps around town. Their antics, like twerking while standing upside down, are comical!
#6: Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth | Supported Platforms: PlayStation
Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth is an exclusive for the PS5 that’s being developed by Square Enix and scheduled for release on February 29, 2024. It shines because of its cast of characters, beautiful combat mechanics, and compelling storylines. On a next-gen console, everything looks beautiful and detailed, with great textures. The game begins after Cloud and his friend have escaped Mostar, a dystopian city. Right away, you explore the planet, experiencing a vibrant and breathing world with intense flora and fauna.
- A Huge Sandbox Awaits: There’s a huge sandbox waiting for you in Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth. Everywhere you explore, a mini-game or side quest is seeking your attention. Luckily, you have different modes of transportation at your beck and call.
- Combat Is More Intricate Than Ever: Combat is deeper because you fight alongside your comrades. To create even more powerful combos, just improve your relationships with them.
#7: Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League | Supported Platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, and PC
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is scheduled to be launched on February 2, 2024. Right off the bat, you’ll be able to play four characters: Captain Boomerang, Harley Quinn, King Shark, and Deadshot. You can play solo or play with three other friends to save the Earth from invaders. The events of this game take place five years after Batman: Arkham Knight. The Suicide Squad has been tasked with investigating odd phenomena in Metropolis.
However, they quickly discover that Brainiac has invaded the city. The supervillain has also brainwashed most of the residents, including Justice League members such as Superman and Batman. The only member of the hero group that wasn’t brainwashed is Wonder Woman, who must now fight alongside the Suicide Squad to save the world. As you might have noticed, we hope the storyline will be as compelling as the trailer paints it to be.
#8: Tekken 8 | Supported Platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, and PC
Tekken 8 will be available on January 26, 2024, the same date as Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. It’s a fighting game, but the game qualifies as an action game because of its lore, gameplay, and campaign. You’ll fight rivals in 4K while using Unreal Engine 5 to elevate the graphical fidelity to greater heights. Tekken 8 will allegedly reward the most aggressive players who take lots of risks in combat. If you play defensively, you’ll lose many rounds because of the Heat gauge.
You fill the Heat gauge by hitting opponents and once it’s full enough, new move sets are added to the player’s repertoire for a brief period. The game will also feature an online mode where you can battle with opponents across the globe. Hopefully, the plot will be just as fun as Tekken 7.
#9: Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown | Supported Platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and the Nintendo Switch
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is being launched on January 18, 2024, and it’s the first Prince of Persia game in 13 years. We’re obviously excited to explore the new time-bending mechanics that are straight out of the mind of a Disney games creator. Unlike previous games with a third-person perspective, this is a 2D title with beautiful effects. To explore and fight different types of enemies, you’ll use different time-based abilities.
To master combat, master the parry move. You’ll parry a fast flurry of moves to build up your Athra’s Glow. This is the energy that powers Sargon’s most devastating moves. Also, did we mention that Sargon is cool under pressure; Kind of like a diamond? Traps and puzzles are also common, especially as the game will show off many dungeons.
#10: Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II | Supported Platforms: Xbox and PC
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II is an upcoming 2024 action game that treats topics such as depression, violence, and PTSD. We think it’s going to be one of those games with high ratings. It’s being developed by Ninja Theory using Unreal Engine 5 and across the journey, players will fight mythical beasts as she attempts to free victims from a tyrannical world. The trailers suggest that it’ll be more brutal than its prequel.
Our Final Say: January Will Be a Busy Month
Fresh after the New Year celebrations, many games will be released before the end of January. We look forward to playing games like Tekken 8 and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. In the meantime, you can check out five games like Sons of the Forest here. Yes, we’ve got many more articles waiting for you at our website.
