It hasn’t been long since Lords of the Fallen was released, but the game has received a flurry of updates in the few weeks it has been up. This is a pretty good sign since it means that HexWorks and CI Games are addressing the players’ concerns. The latest update tackles several issues ranging from the checkpoint system in New Game+ to enemy overloading.
Lords of the Fallen NG+ Vestiges Update
Lords of the Fallen has a New Game Plus feature like most other Souls games; The only problem is that it became too difficult too early on. The checkpoint system in Lords of the Fallen allows players to respawn at checkpoints called Vestiges. Now, when players enter NG+ mode, they find that most of the permanent Vestiges are destroyed, leaving some areas housing only one or even none whatsoever at times.
The problem with this feature was that with the vastness of the Lords of the Fallen map, you’d have to simply walk for a long time to get to the nearest Vestige. This replaces the difficulty aspect of NG+ with just a long waste of time. To counter this, HexWorks introduced varying degrees of NG+ through different NG+ levels. With the release of the new update, the New Game Plus mode will have four difficulties surrounding the checkpoint system.
The first is New Game Zero, where you simply play the game with all your items at a normal difficulty. You can try out different builds, alternate endings, etc. The other difficulties are NG+1, NG+2, and NG+3. The only difference between them is the checkpoint system since NG+1 will only have a few Vestiges removed, NG+2 will have some more removed, and NG+3 will be more like the pre-update NG+.

Changes to Enemy Density and Leashing Range

In addition to the changes to the checkpoint system in NG+, Lords of the Fallen is also getting some enemy reworks. These changes come to the enemy density in many spots, as well as how far an enemy is programmed to chase you before giving up, also known as leashing. After playing the game for a bit, the community complained of enemies overwhelming newer players with their sheer numbers, making it exhausting to clear levels.
While issuing changes to these problems, HexWorks and CI Games were sure to keep NG+ in mind, so the changes do not apply to those game modes. However, for the regular playthrough, they decreased the leashing radius from spawn, meaning enemies will give up on chasing you earlier than before.
They also mentioned that they would reduce the number of enemies in high-ambush areas so players are less likely to die instantly. You’ll still need to remember the areas where ambushes are likely, and in the case you do get ambushed, you can still fight them off. Both these changes combined should give players enough leverage over enemies to fight them off and complete levels with ease.

HexWork’s Team to Address Loss of Progress Glitch

For the final part of the update, many players in the Lords of the Fallen community complained about losing all their progress after encountering a glitch in the game. This can be super frustrating as the game takes a lot of time and effort to progress, and losing your hard-earned effort is quite demotivating. While this doesn’t affect the entire community like the checkpoint system issue, it is refreshing to see the developers working to fix it as soon as possible.
While HexWorks hasn’t announced a hot patch to fix the glitch, they have formed a team to address these issues. Players who have faced a loss of progress can send the team the details of their corrupted saves or the downgraded characters. The team will authenticate the player’s details and help them restore their character to its original level.
They did mention that players will need to restart the playthrough, meaning you’ll need to go through all the quests again. But it will definitely be faster this time around since you’ll already have an overpowered character.

Final Thoughts
To sum it all up, HexWorks and GI Games have definitely listened to the community and given them fixes for the major problems they were facing. Be it gameplay issues or glitches that need to be fixed, they’ve been all over the place to get their game together. With the introduction of the new NG+ checkpoint system levels, players should easily be able to play at the level they want without feeling the need to go above or beyond their comfort level.
