With rumours already spiralling around Marvel’s Wolverine release date, we think it’s time to dive into some of the gameplay-related features. We know Insomniac Games have been pretty tight-lipped about this one, especially taking care it doesn’t overshadow the release of their newest Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 game. But let’s see what we know so far about Marvel’s Wolverine’s cross-platform feature.

Does Marvel’s Wolverine Have Cross-Platform Gameplay?
Unfortunately, Marvel’s Wolverine will not have any cross-platform or cross-play features, for that matter. At this time, Insomniac Games have deemed the game a PlayStation 5 Exclusive. This means that the game will only be released on PlayStation 5 and isn’t compatible with any other console.

While the game is still in development and subject to change, Marvel’s Wolverine cross-platform feature might not be that viable, either. Adding cross-platform gameplay would mean they’d need to release the game for other consoles as well as a PC version. This means a lot of new coding and fixes to incorporate into the game so it runs smoothly with other devices as well.
If we talk a bit about cross-play, that won’t make much sense at all since Wolverine is expected to be a single-player, third-person action-adventure, and the multiplayer aspect just doesn’t fit in. The game might receive some mods after its release, which opens up the possibility of multiplayer gameplay but an official Marvel’s Wolverine cross-platform or cross-play feature doesn’t seem to be in the works for at least a good amount of time now.
Future Possibility of Cross-Platform in Marvel’s Wolverine?
While it’s true that, as of yet, Marvel’s Wolverine shows no signs of cross-platform gameplay, it might be a distant possibility in the future. We know that some of Insomniac’s previous releases have come to PC in due time, and judging by those, we can assume the Wolverine game will follow suit. This can be better judged after seeing what direction Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 takes since it’s an earlier release compared to Wolverine.
Marvel’s Wolverine’s cross-platform feature could also become a reality, but fans should remember that it takes a few years for these features to be introduced. If following previous trends is all we have to go on, we’ll be seeing at least a two to three-year gap between the game’s original release and any indication of it being released for PC.
Even then, it’s wise to remember that Wolverine being released on PC does not automatically mean it will incorporate cross-progression as well since you might need to start a fresh game when you switch platforms.

Will There Be a Crossover From Spider-Man 2
With Insomniac Games releasing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine in a pretty short time span, many fans have been wondering if they’re set in the same universe. And if so, would we see some crossover in either game?

The first part was confirmed by Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 director Bryan Intihar in an interview, where he confirmed that both games are set in the same universe. He further elaborated that the games are set on Earth-1048, the universe where most of Insomniac’s superheroes are placed.
The second part has not yet been confirmed, but with the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we’re sure to find out soon enough. It should be noted that Marvel’s Spider-Man and Wolverine being set in the same universe could mean screen time for both the X-Men and the Avengers. However, since Wolverine is set long before he crosses paths with the X-Men, the possibility is quite low. Before all these crossovers into other games exist, we must first wait for Marvel Wolverine’s cross-platform feature to arrive.

Parting Thoughts
It might be saddening to a lot of players to know that Marvel’s Wolverine is a PlayStation 5 exclusive. However, don’t be downed and hold out hope that the game might eventually be released on PC. If it is eventually released on other platforms, that could pave the way for even more features to be introduced, making the game much more accessible and inclusive of all gaming platforms.
