RTSs are few and far beyond when it comes to the online gaming community. It’s even worse when those video games have limited accessibility, making the player base smaller than it already is. With the release of Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin a few months ago, the question on everyone’s mind was whether there will be a Realms of Ruin cross-platform feature or not. That’s the topic we’ll be tackling today.
Do Realms of Ruin Have Cross-Platform Gameplay?
The Realms of Ruin cross-platform feature is indeed available and has been there since its launch. Frontier Developments added the cross-platform feature on release to ensure smooth and accessible gameplay for everyone. This also gave a lot of players the chance to play with their friends who might not have the same platform as them.
As for every game, cross-platform gameplay is an essential feature when it comes to expanding your player base. Not only does it open up the game for more new players, but it also incentivises the community to play with their friends more often, giving them more time in-game. Especially in a game like Warhammer, where you need good synergy with your duo, Realms of Ruin cross-platform gameplay is a step in the right direction.
To give clarity to the gaming community, Frontier Developments made sure to mention this on their official website: “Battle opponents on PC, PlayStation and Xbox, with optional cross-platform multiplayer, utilising the power of DirectStep™ to level the playing field”.

Will Realms of Ruin Have Cross-Progression?
The first question following cross-platform gameplay is always whether the game also supports cross-progression. Unfortunately, we have not heard any news about cross-progression in Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin at the time of writing. This means that while players can play with their friends across multiple platforms, you cannot carry your progress over to another platform.
This is understandable since cross-progression takes a lot more work and requires more complex storage for player information. Since it’s still too soon to say anything about future updates, for now, we’re just happy with the Realms of Ruin cross-platform gameplay.
What Platforms Will Realms of Ruin Be Available On?
As stated by the developers, Realms of Ruin cross-platform gameplay will be available on the Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. While controls for the gaming consoles and PCs will be starkly different, Frontier Developments has worked hard to make sure no players get an unfair advantage during matches.
Once again, this is absolutely great news for players who were hoping to get their hands on this game since it supports all next-gen consoles and PCs alike. However, it should be noted it will not be released on older generations of consoles, meaning PlayStation 4 players anticipating this game should probably think twice.
Why Is Cross-Platform Gameplay Beneficial?
The Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin cross-platform feature is beneficial for both the player and the game itself for a number of reasons. We lightly mentioned these advantages before, but we’ll elaborate on them once again.
Cross-platform gaming is really fun for the user since it allows you to link up with your friends and play together as long as they have a PC, Xbox Series X, or PlayStation 5. With Realms of Ruin needing cooperation between the duo in the 2v2 game mode, it really helps if you can properly communicate with your partner to come up with a winning strategy. Having cross-platform also reduces the wait time in matchmaking queues, which is something every gamer wants.
If we look at it from the game’s point of view, a more extensive player base means more revenue generated from the game as well as more popularity and traction. A game is only as successful as its player base in the end, right? Other than that, a bigger player base means lower chances of dying out, or at least it’ll take more time compared to games with smaller or deteriorating player bases. These are just some of the reasons why Realms of Ruin cross-platform gameplay was a very advantageous step indeed.

The Bottom Line
If you were worried about playing with your friends before the game’s cross-platform feature announcements, get rid of those worries right away. Now that players will be able to play with their friends more often, as well as more accessibility to the game, it will definitely make things more interesting, with players coining unique strategies to implement in-game.
