Is There a Co-Op In Rise of the Ronin?

Team Ninja is gearing up for one of their biggest releases yet, and the gaming community is hyped. With several major titles hitting their release dates, one we recently talked about was Team Ninja’s new big reveal, Rise of the Ronin. Today, we’re taking it a step further and will be talking about co-op in Rise of the Ronin. Will There Be a Co-Op In Rise of the Ronin?

Rise of the Ronin was first teased to be a single-player experience. Riding on horseback or gliding through the mountains, it was expected that you’d have to face every hurdle on your own. However, we have recently come across new information. While we don’t know exactly what it means yet, let’s talk about different possibilities.

You might’ve heard rumours circulating in the community regarding a 3-player multiplayer option. That is true because if you visit the official PlayStation website and go to Rise of the Ronin’s page, you’ll see it says the game supports up to 3 online players with PS Plus. For those unaware, PS Plus is a monthly subscription service which allows players to game online.

Now, coming back to the main topic, does support for three online players at a time mean there is co-op in Rise of the Ronin? Some people have speculated that this feature might only be available for arenas or a PvP game mode. It should be noted that we haven’t heard anything about a PvP game mode until now, so we don’t think that’s plausible. The other theory is that there will be co-op in Rise of the Ronin, and you can traverse the vast lands of Edo-period Japan with two of your friends. While these are only assumptions, it seems likely this is the path Team Ninja might take.

Trailer Hints for Co-Op In Rise of the Ronin

We mentioned that co-op in Rise of the Ronin might be a possibility because of the news on the PlayStation website. But that’s not all Team Ninja released. For those of you who watched the official gameplay trailer, many players commented that the combat shown had two players being controlled against the enemy. Now, at first, some thought that maybe we’d have a team-like character roster where we would be controlling different characters.

With the rumours of a possible co-op in Rise of the Ronin, these suspicions have shifted more towards those characters actually being controlled by different players who are playing together online. This leans pretty heavily into the co-op theory and really backs up what everyone has been saying regarding the co-op feature.

Rise of the Ronin Cross-Play and Cross-Platform Possibility?

Many of you might be wondering if, with the introduction of co-op in Rise of the Ronin, Team Ninja might be working on cross-play and cross-platform as well.

Unfortunately, this will not be possible, at least in the near future. Rise of the Ronin is a PlayStation 5 exclusive, meaning it will only be released on the PlayStation 5. For cross-play and cross-platform to even be considered, the game would first need to be released on multiple platforms. Even then, there is no indication of cross-play being added to the list of plausible features, so don’t get your hopes up.

Will Rise of the Ronin Have Arenas or PvP?

As far as we know, Rise of the Ronin is being made to tailor to the single-player experience. With the possible introduction of co-op in Rise of the Ronin, we might see a multiplayer mode, but we don’t think it is possible that you’ll be able to duel your friends or other real-life opponents.

Regardless of whether there is PvP or not, we’re totally hyped for March 2024. Particularly because not many games have been able to make the open-world and co-op feature work together flawlessly, but we’re hoping that will be a feat Team Ninja will be able to achieve.
