Every Marvel fan knows of the universe’s lovable, web-slinging superhero, Spider-Man. Regardless of whether it’s Peter Parker in that suit or Miles Morales, we know we’re in for a good time playing their games. With Spider-Man 2 being released recently, players got a pleasant surprise waiting for them in the end-credits scene. Cindy Moon and her father, Albert Moon, were featured in the scene, but how she fits into the Spider universe is what this article is all about.

Who Is Cindy Moon and What’s Her Role In Spider-Man?
Comic book readers will have already guessed who the surprise character is, so let’s break it down for everyone else as well. Cindy Moon is actually Silk in the Spider-Man universe, a superhero who has almost identical powers to the original Spider-Man, plus a few add-ons. She’s very slightly teased in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man 2, where we learn that Rio Morales, Miles Morales’s mother, is dating a man named Albert Moon. Albert has a daughter named Cindy Moon, who also makes an appearance in this scene. While Cindy Moon herself doesn’t get much screen time, players were quick to put two and two together to piece together the identity of this mystery character.
If you’ve read the comics for the Spider-Man universe or played Marvel’s games like Marvel SNAP, you’ll know that Silk dawns a white Spider-Man suit and has the ability to create organic webs, unlike Miles Morales and Peter Parker. This helps her make up for her lack of strength and training, something you’ll understand better if you read some parts of the comics.
Mystery Character Albert Moon Revealed Alongside Daughter, Cindy Moon
We might’ve jumped straight into the lore for Silk, but maybe we didn’t explain the appearance of both these characters in Spider-Man 2 well enough. As we said, Albert Moon is dating Rio Morales and is shown in the post-credits scene. He appears with his daughter, Cindy Moon, by his side, a character that was first seen in Amazing Spider-Man (2014).

It was definitely interesting to see this since it hints at so many possibilities for the upcoming Spider-Man games. While we could see her as just a playable character with Miles Morales, there’s always the off-chance that she gets her own origin story where you can discover more about her past and how she came to be Silk.

Cindy Moon’s Origin Story
If you’re not waiting around for another game to come out to learn about her origin story, here it is. According to the comics, Cindy Moon was an average American-Korean student who got bitten by the same radioactive spider Peter Parker was bitten by. After learning of her powers and realising she can’t control them, she seeks help from a man named Ezekiel Sims, who also has spider-like powers.
She also learns that a vampiric cult led by a vampire named Morlun would come after her for spider-like blood. In the comics, she was supposed to hide away for almost a decade, training her powers and keeping herself out of harm’s way. She’s then rescued by Peter Parker and learns that Morlun has been defeated.
Now, here we have to caution you that the game might not follow the same story as the comics. There will be the occasional inspiration here and there, but from what we’re seeing, it doesn’t look like they’ll be sticking to the entire ‘missing for a decade’ theme since they’ve already shown her with her father coming to Miles’ house.
Is Silk the Same As Spider-Man?
We know this question must have been on everyone’s mind ever since Cindy Moon was shown in Spider-Man 2’s post-credits. So, to keep it short, there are mainly two major differences between Silk and Spider-Man.
Firstly, Spider-Man is much faster and stronger physically than Silk, but Silk’s senses are way above anything Spider-Man has yet achieved. This sense is called Silk Sense. The second point is regarding Silk’s organic webbing. We’ve recently learned that Silk is able to produce organic webbing and does not require any external assistance. Silk, a.k.a Cindy Moon, can even turn these webs into inanimate objects like claws.
Other than that, there’s not much separating the two superheroes. Both run on basically the same principle. Now, all that’s left is to wait and see what Insomniac Games comes up with next.

The Takeaway
Spider-Man 2 gives players enough time to debate about the next course of action for Insomniac Games, even though Spider-Man 3 hasn’t even been hinted at yet. That said, the introduction of Cindy Moon suggests that Insomniac is expanding the Spider-Verse within its gaming universe. Fans may be eager to see how these characters’ story arcs unfold and what role they will play in the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 if and when it is released.
