Is Marvel’s Wolverine PS5 Exclusive?

Ever since Insomniac Games was acquired by Sony, several of their new releases have been exclusive to the PlayStation 5 console. In simpler words, anyone who doesn’t have a PlayStation 5 can’t play those games. While this does limit the accessibility of the game, it is always the developer’s choice which road to go down. With Wolverine the next game in line for release, fans have been waiting to hear, is Marvel’s Wolverine PS5 exclusive?

Marvel’s Wolverine Coming Exclusively to the PS5?

If you’ve heard the rumours, you’ve heard correctly. Insomniac Games has announced that Marvel’s Wolverine will indeed be a PlayStation 5 Exclusive, and you can see it on their official website where it says, “Marvel’s Wolverine is currently in development for the PlayStation®5 console”. This may be disappointing news to Xbox or PC players who were eagerly anticipating the release of Marvel’s latest game, but there might still be hope for the latter.

It also comes as no surprise that Marvel’s Wolverine is a PS5 Exclusive since both Spider-Man 2 and Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart were also PlayStation 5 exclusive. However, we mentioned that PC gamers might have some luck in this department. If we presume that Marvel’s Wolverine will follow the trend of eventually being released on PC, players might be able to purchase the game on Steam somewhere down the line. Although how long that would take, we’re not entirely sure.

It should also be noted that while Insomniac Games said that the game is in development solely for the PlayStation 5, we might still see some last-minute changes where the previous generation is also included. But we’re highly sceptical about this since the PlayStation 4 has started fading away in the distance.

No Cross-Gen Gaming Like Spider-Man: Miles Morales

The last game produced by Insomniac Games that saw cross-generation gameplay (Being able to play on the PlayStation 4 and 5) was Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Shortly after, Insomniac followed it with Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, both of which were PS5 Exclusives.

This means that Marvel’s Wolverine is a PS5 Exclusive as well and will probably stay that way. Insomniac Games have shifted to promoting the PlayStation 5, and we can say that their strategies are definitely working.

Why Is Marvel’s Wolverine Only Being Released on PS5?

After realising that Marvel’s Wolverine is a PS5 Exclusive, the next question that comes to mind is why? Why has Insomniac Games started producing games solely for the PlayStation 5? Well, we answered this in the first line of the article, really. Sony acquired Insomniac Games in 2019 for a whopping $229 million USD.

As we all know, PlayStation is Sony’s gaming console, so it only makes sense they would release games to help promote the sale of their gaming console. Games made prior to this acquisition were released on various platforms, which helped increase the player base however, with this new trend of making Marvel’s Wolverine a PS5 Exclusive, it really limits the accessibility of upcoming games.

Is Marvel’s Wolverine Going to Be Released Soon?

We know that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 dropped not too long ago, so it’s hard to fathom that Insomniac Games could pump out another state-of-the-art game this soon. However, with rumours circulating amongst the community, Marvel’s Wolverine is expected to drop sometime late next year.

This isn’t set in stone since we haven’t received any official notification from Insomniac Games, but there have been strong indications that Marvel’s Wolverine could be in the final stages of development. Now, it’s just about waiting for some new teaser trailers or some sort of indication of how far exactly the game has come since its announcement in 2021.
