Fans of Stardew Valley, rejoice! The much-anticipated Stardew Valley 1.6 Update is officially arriving for consoles and mobile platforms on November 4, as confirmed by the game’s creator, Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone. After an eight-month wait following the update’s release on PC, players on PlayStation, Switch, Xbox, and mobile devices can now gear up for the exciting new content and improvements.
Stardew Valley is regarded as one of the best life simulation games ever created, thanks to its captivating blend of farming, community-building, and exploration. Over the years, it has seen several substantial updates, all free of charge.
The Stardew Valley 1.6 Update is no exception, introducing new end-game content, over 100 lines of dialogue, seasonal outfits for NPCs, and more. After releasing the Stardew Valley 1.6 update on PC in March 2024, ConcernedApe has finally announced that the wait for other platforms is nearly over.
Why Was the Stardew Valley 1.6 Update Delayed on Other Consoles?

For context, ConcernedApe addressed the delays in a Twitter post, explaining that he prefers releasing updates first on PC to serve as a “beta test.” He stated that pushing bug fixes for the PC version is more manageable than for consoles or mobile, which take longer to approve and patch.
By learning from the minor patches (now up to version 1.6.8 on PC), he has worked to ensure the console and mobile versions will launch with most issues already addressed.
We as players expressed our utmost gratitude for this approach and acknowledged the extra effort it takes to polish such a large game across multiple platforms.
What Players Can Expect in the Stardew Valley 1.6 Update?
Players can expect a wealth of new content with the Stardew Valley 1.6 Update. For instance, from a brand-new farm layout to a skill-based Mastery System, the update brings fresh challenges and rewards to spice up the Stardew Valley experience. Here’s a breakdown of what you can look forward to:
New Farm Layout and Mastery System

In the Stardew Valley 1.6 Update, the developer added a new farm called Meadowlands Farm, which is perfect for animal lovers. It includes two ponds, a river, and a new type of grass, Chewy Blue Grass, which animals love. Players starting on this farm will receive a free coop and two chickens, giving them a head start on animal farming. This layout is ideal for those who enjoy raising animals and fishing directly on their farm.
Moreover, the developer is catering to its veteran fanbase with a new Mastery System, which offers a way to continue levelling up even after maxing out regular skills to level 10. Players can locate the Mastery Cave at the bottom of Cindersap Forest and earn Mastery Points by gaining activity experience. These points can be redeemed at one of five skill shrines for special rewards.
New Festivals, Events and Pets

Besides the aforementioned new releases, the Stardew Valley 1.6 Update adds four new festivals and events for the players to enjoy. Listed are the four festivals and events you can experience from the update:
- Trout Derby (Summer 20-21): A fishing competition where players fish for Golden Tags inside the trout they catch.
- Squidfest (Winter 12-13): A similar competition where players aim to catch as many squid as possible at the Beach.
- Desert Festival (Spring 15-17): A massive event in the Desert with stalls, challenges, and activities like racing, fishing, and Skull Cavern challenges.
- Green Rain: A new weather event where green rain falls, causing moss to grow on trees. Moss is a new resource used for crafting recipes.
In addition, players can now expand their furry family with more pets, including turtles! These adorable companions come in green or the expensive purple variant, making them a fun addition to your farm.
New Questlines and Minor Quality-of-Life Changes
Lastly, in one of the cutest additions in the Stardew Valley 1.6 Update, a raccoon family moves into town, offering a questline that unlocks a new store where you can purchase seeds for the new crops. Completing this questline introduces new neighbours, a family of raccoons, who open a Raccoon Family Store. The store sells seeds for the new crops introduced in the update and acts like a mini Community Center bundle, offering a fresh way to gather and explore resources.
As for some QOL changes, the World Map will show your exact location, improving navigation. This feature is especially helpful in multiplayer mode, ensuring you and your friends don’t get lost. Villagers in Pelican Town will also have seasonal outfits, giving them more dynamic appearances year-round. Plus, they’ll engage in fresh interactions, making conversations feel more alive and personal.
There is also the addition of New Mystery Boxes, with Mr. Qi hiding mysterious crates around the Valley. These Mystery Boxes can be found by digging artifact spots, mining, and fishing and they contain high-value items, meals, books, and more.
Closing Notes
The 1.6 update has been one of the most anticipated releases for Stardew Valley fans across all platforms. Whether exploring the new Meadowlands Farm, engaging in the Mastery System, or attending the festivals, there’s something for everyone. Thus, mark November 4 on your calendar and prepare for the exciting new adventures in Pelican Town!
