Gunfire Games has confirmed that the third and final expansion for Remnant 2, titled The Dark Horizon, will be available on September 24 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S for $9.99. Players who own the Ultimate Edition of Remnant 2 can access the DLC at no extra cost. Along with the DLC, a massive free update will roll out, bringing new content and features, including the much-awaited Boss Rush mode.
Remnant 2 builds on the successful souls-like and looter-shooter elements introduced in Remnant: From the Ashes. Players explore procedurally generated worlds torn apart by a hostile alien force known as The Root. The game offers multiple archetypes, such as the Gunslinger, Handler, and Medic, and introduces a dual-archetype system, allowing players to mix abilities for deeper strategic gameplay.
With the release of The Dark Horizon, the developers aim to expand on these mechanics while delivering a thrilling conclusion to the game’s post-launch content.
Everything to Know About The Dark Horizon
Returning to N’Erud

The Dark Horizon will take players back to N’Erud, a haunting, mysterious world frozen in time. Once home to a thriving alien civilisation, N’Erud is now controlled by rogue AI and robotic creations, as the original inhabitants have long since perished. The eerie atmosphere and expansive alien farmlands, managed by machines, create a foreboding environment filled with hidden secrets and dangerous enemies.
The expansion brings a brand-new storyline, challenging dungeons, and the introduction of a Glider Traversal System. This system allows players to navigate N’Erud’s terrain, offering tactical advantages and opportunities to uncover the world’s mysteries. As players explore the ruins, they’ll encounter formidable robot enemies, unlock new gear, and meet surprising allies.
One of the most exciting additions in The Dark Horizon is the new archetype, The Warden. This unique character class adds versatility to the game, featuring a fully automated drone that can shield, heal, or attack enemies. According to the developers, this new archetype complements any playstyle, making it a valuable asset in solo and co-op play.
A full Archetype Reveal Trailer will drop soon, giving players a more in-depth look at the Warden’s capabilities.
Boss Rush Mode, Prisms and Rebalanced Fragment System

Alongside the release of The Dark Horizon, Gunfire Games is introducing Boss Rush Mode, a free update for all Remnant 2 players. This mode is tailored for those seeking fast-paced, high-stakes combat, as players will face waves of powerful bosses solo or with friends.
Boss Rush Mode offers three difficulty levels:
- Triple Threat: Players take on three bosses in a challenging run.
- Trial by Fire: A seven-boss battle that tests endurance and skill.
- The Gauntlet: The ultimate challenge, with 19 bosses to defeat.
As players progress through these boss fights, they’ll earn buffs and stat bonuses to help them survive the increasingly difficult enemies. The mode also features Aberrations, powerful foes that drop rare rewards, including new weapons and equipment. Accessing Boss Rush is simple: players can head to the World Stone in Ward 13 and select the new mode, much like they would for Campaign or Adventure mode.
Lastly, Remnant 2 will introduce a new Prisms system as part of the free update. These Prisms can be upgraded and enhance the existing Fragment system, allowing players to gain additional stat bonuses. This new mechanic gives players more control over their character’s stats and abilities, making building customisation and optimisation easier.
Closing Notes
Considering everything, The Dark Horizon promises to deliver an epic conclusion to Remnant 2, combining a fresh storyline, intense new challenges, and an exciting new archetype. Whether players are returning to N’Erud to explore its dark secrets or diving into Boss Rush Mode for non-stop action, this expansion will provide a thrilling experience for fans.
With new gear, powerful weapons, and the unique Warden archetype, The Dark Horizon is the perfect send-off for Remnant 2. As Gunfire Games wraps up its DLC offerings, Remnant 2 players have much to look forward to on September 24.
