The Lords of the Fallen is a 2023 survival action game that’s reminiscent of Soulslike titles like Elden Ring, Dark Souls, and Lies of P. You’re a Dark Crusader on a quest to vanquish Adyr, the demon god. The game shines because the protagonist can seamlessly walk between the land of the living and the land of the dead at will.
Typical of Soulslike titles, The Lords of the Fallen features colossal boss fights, fast-paced combat, and memorable character encounters. That said, Player.com enjoyed multiple endings in this game. In short, your choices determine which ending you get.

The Lords of the Fallen’s Immersive Lore
The Lords of the Fallen impresses with its lore, which tells the tale and battles between the two gods, Adyr and Orius. Adyr had been imprisoned in the Rhogar Realm by Orius and his devotees before the title’s events. Still, Adyr is a god so the rules don’t apply to him. This is because Orius constructed magic beacons to hold him for as long as possible.
However, Adyr has been gradually weakening the beacons and their Hallowed Sentinels with his corrosive powers. Your job as a Dark Crusader is noble; Cleanse all the beacons, free Adyr, and kill the evil god. To ease the road ahead, the followers of Orius gift players the Umbral Lamp, a tool that easily lets you walk two realms at once.
Three Endings Await; Choose Wisely
There are three gods or godlike beings in The Lords of the Fallen that you can ally with. Naturally, partnering with any of the three gods guarantees a unique ending. So, you must choose your ending wisely to determine the fate of Mournstead. Also, the endings each unlock a new starting class for you to try out in New Game Plus.

By New Game Plus, we mean your next run after finishing The Lords of the Fallen only once. This isn’t new to Souslike games or even RPGs as a whole. To that end, below are the three unique endings in The Lords of the Fallen. They’re the Umbral, Inferno, and Radiant endings, and your decisions in the game will earn you the appropriate ending.
#1: The Inferno Ending
The Inferno ending is the evil conclusion of the game because you herald the world’s death and destruction. You’ll betray Orius and his followers by doing the opposite of what you were sent to do. Sure, you can still kill the Colossal Sentinels guarding the corrupted beacons but don’t cleanse any beacons. Rather, continue the campaign until you reach the Abbey of the Hallowed Sisters to obtain the Rune of Adyr. You will find the rune on an altar near the Umbral Flowerbed.
Still, acquiring the Rune of Adyr is easier than done because the way there is perilous. For one, you have to kill the Rapturous Huntress of the Dark and Andreas of Ebb, the Iron Wayfarer, on your way to the rune. Of course, Andreas might not be alive, which is in your favour. If Andreas has already taken the Rune of Adyr, you can find him on your way to Castle Bramis. From there, follow the steps below to free Adyr.
- Fight the Sundered Monarch and activate the Effigy of Adyr to strengthen the rune.
- Return to each of the still-corrupted beacons and break them using the rune.
- Lastly, return to the Empyrean and fight Judge Cleric if you haven’t.
#2: The Radiant Ending
The Radiant ending is roughly what you would call a good ending. In Soulslike games, good endings aren’t necessarily good, but compared to the other options, they’re ideal. Moving forward, the Radiant ending is the typical conclusion to the game. You eventually kill Adyr, even though he desperately tries to convince you otherwise. Afterwards, the Umbral Lamp absorbs his essence, allowing Orius to take over.
Of course, this ending requires the protagonist to sacrifice himself for the greater good, which might not sit well with some gamers. Also, choosing this ending will leave many of your questions unanswered and options closed until New Game Plus. To opt in for the Radiant ending, all you have to do is cleanse just one of the five beacons imprisoning Adyr. Cleansing a corrupted beacon requires you to beat the Colossal Sentinel guarding it.
Colossal Sentinels aren’t pushovers, considering their size and damage per attack. Still, there’s light at the end of the tunnel. The Radiant ending will unlock the Radiant Purifier as a starting class. The Radiant Purifier is a stomper; That is, a battlemage that can stomp the living energy out of an enemy with light-based spells. In short, you’re the perfect predator; It’s as if a priest brought a tanker of holy water to a vampire fight.
#3: The Umbral Ending
The Umbral ending is called the true ending, but the road there is morally wrong. It’s an interesting route because you won’t side with any of the gods. However, you must sacrifice several NPCs and friendly characters to achieve this ending. To get this ending, you must avoid cleansing the beacons beforehand. Instead, get the Umbral Scouring Clump from Molhu at Skyrest Bridge to enter Mother’s Lull.
Mother’s Lull is a dark realm that’s depicted as a series of platforms where Remnants await gamers with a task. Finish each task to progress to the next one and eventually, you’ll be tasked with killing three NPCs. Once you’ve progressed enough in the tasks, you’ll obtain the Withered Rune of Adyr to eventually release the Putried Mother. She reigns supreme over what’s left of the world and can unlock the Putrid Child starting class.
Our Final Say: The Lords of the Fallen Is Still Impressive
The Lords of the Fallen 2 may be redeemed soon, but the original isn’t the most impressive Soulslike game out there. However, its lore and combat are both compelling enough to give it a try. It’s currently available on the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and yes, there’s multiplayer too.
